Want regular readers for your blog? Don't hide your RSS feed!

The vast majority of people don't have a clue about RSS. They still read blogs directly on the Web rather than through blog readers such as Google Reader. That's O.K. But avid blog fans do use readers. If they like your blog they will subscribe, either by RSS or by e-mail, and form the core of your readership. Most blogging programs, whether self-hosted or in the cloud include systems for creating feeds. If you use Wordpress, Movable Type, Blogger or most of the other popular options, your blog probably has a feed. If so, add the link to your menu or sidebar.

As an example, view my Web Development Blog. If you look in the left-hand menu you'll see that I have links to my entries and comments feed as well as a link to subscribe by e-mail. This makes it easy for people to subscribe, and reminds them that the option is available.
